After the visitors took the lead in the first period, the Red Bulls equalized in the second period. But it wasn't until the furious final period that the Red Bulls really came into their own, scoring three more goals to finally celebrate a deserved home victory. The goals were scored by Michael Raffl, Peter Schneider, Lucas Thaler, and Benjamin Nissner.
The game recap
The visitors started boldly and initially had more possession, without posing a threat. The Red Bulls gradually regained control, but the Vorarlbergers struck immediately on the first power play. Collin Adams sank a one-timer from the right face-off circle, and Salzburg goalie David Kickert had little to stop him. Shortly afterward, Feldkirch's Oskar Maier appeared in front of the net after a short solo run, but Kickert made the save (10th minute). Salzburg continued to play more and more towards the goal, but still struggled against the lively visitors. Thomas Raffl had a good opportunity at 2-on-1 (15th minute), and a power play before the break was also really good. But still without a goal, and the team went to the dressing rooms with a 0-1 lead.
Shortly after the restart, however, Michael Raffl shot from the slot and beat the good Feldkirch goalie Alex Caffi for the first time (21st minute). The game then picked up pace, and the Red Bulls were able to establish themselves in the attacking zone at times. The Pioneers continued to have their moments, and David Kickert remained alert for the occasional well-placed shot. As the period wore on, Salzburg dominated the game, but the field was tight, with many shots never finding their way there. After 40 minutes, the score was 1-1, but the visitors were well served by that, especially after the second period.
Their patience was rewarded. After the Red Bulls had to play with four men at the beginning of the final period, Peter Schneider hammered the puck into the net for his first goal of the season on the power play to put them 2-1 up (44th minute). Lucas Thaler then completed a beautiful combination involving Thomas Raffl and Benjamin Nissner with technical finesse in front of the net to increase the lead to 3-1 (48th minute). That was the deciding factor, even though Feldkirch didn't retreat, played for a goal, and kept David Kickert busy in the closing stages. But Salzburg continued to push on. Benjamin Nissner made a spectacular drive through the entire Feldkirch defense and put the puck past Alex Caffi and under the crossbar (57th minute). This was the crowning touch after a dominant final period, which the Red Bulls clearly won and thus secured the next three points.

Statement from Benjamin Nissner
"The Pioneers came out of the locker room at full speed, and it took us a long time to get into the game. But then we found a way to win the game. Sometimes you get frustrated when you're playing around the outside, and they're tight inside, and then suddenly it goes the other way. But we stubbornly fought through the wall and won in the end."
