Game Recap
The Red Bulls took the lead in Bruneck on the first power play. After good work from their teammates, the puck fell to Connor Corcoran's stick in heavy traffic at the left post, and he took full advantage and scored his fifth goal (6th minute). With equal numbers, the Red Bulls exerted more pressure, but both teams denied any significant opportunities for a long time. Starting in the 10th minute, Salzburg played shorthanded for five minutes (Niki Kraus received a game-time penalty for knee checks), but they brilliantly overcame the situation with Atte Tolvanen in goal. After an even back-and-forth in the remaining period, the Red Bulls took the lead into the locker room.
At the start of the second period, the home team put the Red Bulls under pressure and created several good chances. This was interrupted by a Mathias Böhm solo effort (26th minute), who couldn't get past Edward Pasquale. The home team then equalized, with Roc Ticar catching the rebound after several good defensive moves by Atte Tolvanen (28th minute). The Pustertal team remained the dominant force after that, turning the game around with a goal from Tommy Purdeller, who slotted home from a tight angle on a quick break (32nd minute). Only then did Salzburg's offense return to action, and it was now an intense, evenly matched game, with both teams taking turns to create goals. However, the home team held a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
In the final period, the Red Bulls initially took control of the game and posed a threat. But Bruneck quickly rebounded, and another intense exchange ensued. Benjamin Nissner tried a shot from a tight angle on the power play (51st minute). Edward Pasquale, however, had an answer for every shot and was not caught off guard by evenly spaced shots. In the second half of the final period, it was almost exclusively the Red Bulls who played, but Pustertal somehow managed to break free, and the strong goalkeeper took care of the rest. In the final seconds, Lucas Thaler had the chance to equalize right in front of goal, but it just wasn't meant to be. The Red Bulls, whose lineup featured Salzburg's Alexander Rebernig making his professional debut, lost 2-1 in Bruneck despite a strong final period.
Manny Viveiro's statement
"We played well in the first and final periods. However, we didn't show our best form in the second period. A few mistakes cost us two goals. You also have to acknowledge how Pustertal pressed at the beginning of the second period. Nevertheless, we had enough chances to equalize at the end, which is a positive despite the loss."
