Ben Cooper leaves Salzburg's successful coaching team The Canadian wants to take the next step // Team updateAssociate coach Ben Cooper is leaving the Red Bulls to pursue a new career path. The 48-year-old Canadian has contributed his know-how to the team for four years and has thus played a major role in the last four titles in the win2day ICE Hockey League.
Ben Cooper came to Salzburg in 2021 with a wealth of experience from his time as video coach of the Canadian national team (Olympic gold medal in 2010), assistant coach of the NHL team Florida Panthers and head coach of the Danish first division club Herning Blue Fox. At the Red Bulls, he was mainly responsible for video analysis of the opposing teams and coaching the special teams on the coaching bench, paving the way to two titles in the win2day ICE Hockey League in Salzburg's first two seasons (2021/22, 2022/23) as Assistant Coach alongside Head Coach Matt McIlvane.
In the last two seasons (2023/24, 2024/25), he continued his successful work as Associate Coach alongside Head Coach Oliver David and was able to celebrate two more domestic championship titles with the Red Bulls. In the 2022/23 season, his experience and attention to detail were also in demand at the Spengler Cup, where he coached Team Canada as Assistant Coach.
