Game report
The game got off to a highly charged start, as both teams were still fighting for a better position in the qualification round. Sterzing got off to the better start and took the lead through Adam Capannelli in the 2nd minute of the game. Alex Planatscher increased the lead to 2:0 just a few minutes later (7'). The Juniors struggled to get a grip on the game in the early stages, but improved as the game progressed. In the 10th minute, it was Jesse Kauhanen who scored the equalizer with a shot from distance after an assist from Philipp Wimmer. The Red Bulls then showed more offensive presence, but were unable to score another goal. A late substitution put the defense to the test again, but goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner kept his team in the game.
The Juniors tried to build up more pressure in the second period, but Sterzing remained efficient. In the 30th minute, the visitors took advantage of a powerplay situation and Bryson Cianfrone made it 3:1. Just three minutes later (33), Adam Capannelli made it 4:1, also in the powerplay. After this goal, the Juniors changed goalkeeper and Luca Haitzmann replaced Ankirchner. The home side tried to close the gap again, but the Broncos defended compactly and hardly allowed any top-class chances.
With an energetic start to the final third, the Juniors tried to turn the game around. However, Sterzing took advantage of a mistake in defense and James Livingstone made it 5:1 in the 45th minute. Nevertheless, the Red Bulls did not give up and showed morale: within 49 seconds, first Paul Vinzens (45) and then Lukas Hörl (46) scored to make it 3:5. The Juniors then dominated the game, but were unable to find a way of overcoming the Sterzing goalkeeper again. In the final minute of the game, the Red Bulls risked everything and took Haitzmann off the ice in favor of a sixth field player. But instead of another goal from the home side, Nicholas Campoli scored an empty-net goal (60') to make the final score 6:3.
