Game report
The game began with a physical exchange in which both teams initially felt each other out. The opening minutes were dominated by a lot of goal-scoring exchanges and short spells of pressure, without either team being able to create any clear chances. While the Juniors tried to get into the offensive, the Broncos proved to be more effective and put Juniors goalie Valentin Ankirchner under increasing pressure. The first goal of the game was then scored in the 17th minute: Connor Sanvido converted a power play after a pass from Fabian Hackhofer to make it 1:0 for the home side.
Sterzing were initially in control in the second period, but after the first five minutes the Juniors increasingly got into the game. In the 33rd minute, Vadim Schreiner put his first offensive exclamation mark on Salzburg with a shot on the crossbar. However, instead of the longed-for equalizer, a short time later they were short-handed, which interrupted the Juniors' flow of play again - and the Broncos made the most of this opportunity: Fabian Hackhofer increased the lead to 2:0 with a powerplay goal in the 37th minute.
The Juniors tried to fight their way back into the game in the final period, but the Broncos remained stable defensively and waited for Salzburg to make mistakes. Although they made an effort, they remained too harmless in offense. Luciano Zandegiacomo finally decided the game in the 47th minute when he made it 3:0 for Sterzing after a quick attack. Despite further offensive efforts by the Red Bulls, the Broncos defense remained compact. In the 54th minute, Thomas Galimberti scored the final goal to make it 4:0. The Juniors thus remain winless after three games in Qualification Round A and now urgently need to score points to keep their chances of reaching the pre-playoffs alive.
