Initial situation
It remains exciting until the very end. With tomorrow's home game against Ljubljana, the Red Bulls have completed all supplementary games resulting from this season's CHL games. And the 48th and final game on Friday in Székesfehérvár will decide the winner of the basic round, even if the leading KAC currently has a four-point cushion.
However, a 3-pointer against Olimpija Ljubljana is a prerequisite for this. The Red Bulls want to improve on their last home game two days ago against Asiago and above all make more of their own chances. The Slovenians are in 8th place in the table, have secured their pre-playoff qualification and can no longer move up the table. Nevertheless, they will try to make things difficult for the Red Bulls and make a statement ahead of the knockout phase.
5 vs. 5 decisive
The Slovenians, who are led onto the ice by 36-year-old veteran and captain Robert Sabolič, are one of the teams with the fewest penalty minutes over the entire basic round. With 131 2-minute penalties, they have also drawn the fewest minor penalties of any team, giving their opponents few powerplay opportunities. The Red Bulls are in 8th place in this ranking with 165 minor penalties so far. The goal is to take fewer penalties, as the Red Bulls only have the eleventh best penalty killing rate in the league at 74.5%. As the seventh best team, the Slovenians have survived 80% of all shorthanded games without conceding a goal.
