Course of the game
The first good shot from an acute angle belonged to Salzburg's Scott Kosmachuk (2nd). The Red Bulls were determined not to let anything get in their way and quickly created further opportunities against the Italians, who were playing with a reduced squad. Lukas Schreier, Niki Kraus and Peter Schneider all had shots right in front of Marco Constantini's goal (11). But Asiago fought back and promptly scored the first goal (15'). In the power play, Nicholas Porco was played free in front of goal by David Kickert and scored from close range. That put the visitors on the offensive a little more, but the Red Bulls continued to dictate the game, apart from Nicholas Porco's short solo run (18). Scott Kosmachuk had another chance alone in front of goal just seconds before the buzzer, but the visitors led 1:0 after 20 minutes, contrary to the course of the game.
Philipp Sinn redeemed the Red Bulls after the break, netting his first goal of the season from an acute angle (23'). Thomas Raffl finally took the deserved lead, converting a pass directly in front of goal (28'). The Red Bulls continued to have a number of opportunities after that, but the visitors also remained dangerous at intervals and Bryce Misley netted from close range in poor visibility for David Kickert to equalize at 2:2 (38'). The Red Bulls remained the dominant team after 40 minutes, but still had to go into the dressing room with the score at 2-2.
Asiago initially played more in the final third and made it more difficult for the Red Bulls to create real chances. They continued to have a lot of possession, but were unable to get through to the goal for a long time, while the visitors sought to escape forwards. As time went on, the Red Bulls' pressure increased again and the game shifted almost completely to the offensive zone. And again it seemed like redemption, albeit a well-deserved one, when Lucas Thaler regained the lead with his goal (53'). Scott Kosmachuk followed up just one minute later and also made things clear on the scoreboard (54'). The Red Bulls finally won the game 4:2 and secured three important points two rounds before the end of the basic round.
