Game report
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors started the game with commitment, but Merano took control early on. As early as the 7th minute of the game, the visitors took advantage of the home side's carelessness: David Trivellato converted a counter-attack while short-handed to make it 0:1. Despite conceding the early goal, the Juniors remained active and gained offensive time, but they were repeatedly thwarted by Meran goalkeeper Rudy Rigoni.
A similar picture emerged in the second period: The Juniors were now more offensive, but were unable to find a way past Meran's compact defense. It was not until the 32nd minute that they equalized: Vadim Schreiner converted a precise pass from Maximilian Wurzer and Lukas Hörl to make it 1:1. But the jubilation did not last long - shortly afterwards Oscar Gustafsson narrowly missed hitting the post and just two minutes later (34') Daniel Gellon restored Meran's lead after a quick counter-attack.
The final period was initially an even game with chances on both sides. However, Meran increasingly gained a greater share of the play and used a power play to make a preliminary decision: Skate Skalde deflected a shot from David Trivellato in the 47th minute to make it 1:3. The Juniors tried everything again in the final phase, firing from all angles and pushing for the final goal. However, Meran's defense remained stable and hardly allowed any compelling opportunities. Several overpayment situations in the final minutes also went unused, meaning that the Juniors were ultimately beaten 3:1.
