It was a game that thrilled fans and players alike. The Red Bulls dominated the Finnish runners-up Lahti Pelicans in the second leg of the CHL round of 16, winning by a clear 5:0 in the end and thus advancing to the quarter-finals of Europe's best league for only the second time in the club's history. There, Salzburg will face top Swedish team Färjestad BK, who beat Finland's Tappara Tampere 6:5 (after overtime) in the round of 16.
The task could not be greater, as they now face the winner of the regular season. The Swedes finished the preliminary round without defeat and thus deservedly top the 24-team field. The Red Bulls went into the playoffs in eighth place.

Due to the CHL quarterfinal participation, the ICE Hockey League games of the Red Bulls on December 4 in Villach and December 18 in Asiago have to be postponed. The new match dates will be announced in due time.
Ten-time Swedish champion
Färjestad Karlstad was founded in 1932 and plays its home games in the Löfbergs Arena (8,500 spectators), which was built in 2001. Färjestad is the most successful team in the history of the Swedish top league SHL (formerly Elitserien) and has participated in every single season since the league's debut in 1975. The club are ten-time Swedish champions, with their last title coming in the 2021/22 season. In their six previous appearances in the Champions Hockey League, Färjestad reached the round of 16 twice and the quarter-finals in 2023/24, where they were eliminated by eventual finalists Skellefteå AIK.

CHL playoff mode
The first 16 teams in the 24-team field will contest the playoff round of 16. They play 1st against 16th, 2nd against 15th and so on. This results in the playoff tree up to the final. The play-off matches are decided by a first leg and a second leg, with the total number of goals (aggregate score) being decisive in the event of a tie. If the goal difference is equal after the second leg, 10 minutes of extra time with 3 outfield players and a goalkeeper will follow. If the extra time does not result in a decision, a penalty shoot-out follows with five shooters from each team. Thereafter, the teams alternate until a decision is reached, if necessary. Only the final is decided in an all-important game.
