Game report
Both teams got off to a dynamic start in the first game after the national team break and tested their opponents' goalkeepers early on, but they initially remained impregnable. In the 8th minute of the game, the Juniors were given an overtime situation, but shortly afterwards had to play shorthanded themselves. As the game progressed, the young Salzburg team took more and more control. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 18th minute: Adrian Gesson gave the Red Bulls a 1:0 lead after preparatory work by Paul Noll and Luca Kogler.
In the second period, the visitors from Val Gardena got into the game better and put more pressure on goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner. The Juniors responded with a solid defensive performance and withstood the onslaught. The game was now evenly poised, with both teams creating chances, but no further goals were scored. Towards the end of the period, Salzburg were once again dangerous thanks to quick counter-attacks and an overpayment opportunity, but were unable to extend their lead.
The final period began with the visitors on the offensive, who equalized in the 47th minute after several good opportunities: Michele Forte scored to make it 1:1, assisted by Stephan Deluca. The Red Bulls responded promptly and pressed for the lead again, but were thwarted by the Italians' strong defense. Both teams looked to decide the game in regulation time and increased the tempo. Hannes Kasslatter hit the post for Val Gardena, while Maximilian Wurzer narrowly missed the target at the other end. The game therefore went into extra time. Here, the Juniors took the initiative and created several top-class chances. The decision was finally made after 2:20 minutes (63'): Maximilian Wurzer scored the much-acclaimed winning goal to make it 2:1 after a pass from Daniel Assavolyuk and Lars Bosecker.
