Game report
The first period was goalless, with both teams creating chances. The hosts from Neumarkt fired 11 shots on goal, the Juniors responded with 9 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner kept the Red Bulls in the game with important saves.
In the second period, Salzburg made effective use of their first overtime situation: Maximilian Wurzer made it 1:0 for the Juniors in the 28th minute, assisted by Philipp Krening and Philipp Wimmer. But the joy was short-lived. In the 33rd minute, the Cavaliers equalized to 1:1 through Moritz Kaufmann, also in the power play. Shortly before the end of the second period, Philipp Krening struck again and restored the Juniors' lead with his goal to make it 2:1 (38'). They went into the second break with this narrow lead.
The start to the final period could not have gone better for the Red Bulls: Adrian Gesson increased the lead to 3:1 in the 42nd minute after a pass from Fabian Baumann, but Unterland did not give in and reduced the deficit to 2:3 in the 50th minute through former Red Bull Hockey Juniors player Daniels Murnieks. The young Salzburg team did not let this unsettle them. In the 57th minute, Adrian Gesson again took advantage of a power play and scored his second goal of the evening to give his team a two-goal lead at 4:2, again assisted by Philipp Wimmer. Shortly before the end, Unterland took the goalkeeper off the ice for an extra outfield player, which Maximilian Kirchebner took advantage of in the 59th minute to score an empty-net goal and seal the final score of 5:2.
