The game was evenly matched right from the start. Both teams created good chances, but the first period ended goalless. The Juniors defended strongly, especially in the final phase of the period, when the Broncos were unable to capitalize on an overtime situation.
The visitors then took the lead in the second period. In the 27th minute, Adam Capannelli took advantage of a powerplay situation and scored to make it 1:0 for the Wipptal Broncos. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors did not let this unsettle them and pressed for the equalizer. In the 32nd minute it was finally Adrian Gesson who scored his second Alps Hockey League goal after a quick counter-attack and a beautiful pass from Nick Maul to equalize the score at 1:1.
The third period was characterized by high speed and intense duels. Both teams pressed for the lead, but in the 53rd minute it was Sterzing who went ahead again. Philippe Sanche deflected a shot from Adam Capannelli beyond Thomas Pfarrmaier's reach to give the visitors a 2:1 lead. However, the Juniors showed morale and fought their way back into the game. Paul Vinzens equalized again in the 56th minute to make it 2:2, prepared by Maximilian Wurzer and David Cernik.
In overtime, an early penalty against the Juniors proved to be decisive. The Broncos took advantage of the ensuing power play and Philippe Sanche scored his second goal of the evening in the 63rd minute to give the visitors a 3:2 victory.
