In the second half, the home side's dangerous shots increased, mostly from distance. The Red Bulls remained alert, held their own and had opportunities themselves. Lucas Thaler then simply took a shot from the half-high slot (26') and scored with a concealed shot to make it 4:0. The game continued to go back and forth, but the Red Bulls did not allow themselves to be lured out of their reserves and defied Zurich's vehement attacks for a long time. In the 33rd minute, however, ZSC top scorer Denis Malgin did not miss the chance and netted for the home side alone in front of goal for the first time. The Red Bulls defended short-handed in the final third minutes, but still had a three-goal lead at the second break.
In the final period, ZSC forced the Red Bulls to play defense and reduced the lead further, Santtu Kinnunen scored from an acute angle (45.). The game now took place largely in Salzburg's defensive third, with Zurich playing to close the gap. The Red Bulls were only able to mount a few attacks after halfway through the third period. However, the home side continued to press and forced David Kickert to make a number of strong saves. Together with the players in front of him - outnumbered in the last two minutes - the Red Bulls defended their lead in the thrilling final phase and ultimately celebrated a 4:2 away win against the Swiss champions.
