“We live from our strong team performance” Thomas Raffl leads the Austrian national team through an incredible World Cup // IIHF World Championship The Austrian national team has triggered a veritable wave of enthusiasm at the World Championships in the Czech Republic. With sensational games against the top nations Canada, Switzerland and Finland, Austria has four points after five games. This means that team boss Roger Bader's squad is already very close to securing a place in the group stage with two games to go, even if they have to keep up their strong performance right to the end. In any case, the Austrians have already made sporting history. With the point win against world champions Canada and a 5-goal comeback in the final third (!) as well as the first ever 3:2 win against Olympic champions Finland. This was not helped by yesterday's 4-0 defeat against the Czech Republic, who were particularly motivated and compact on home soil.

Impressions of the WC in Prague
For Thomas Raffl, captain of the Red Bulls and the Austrian national team, this is his seventh World Cup. We caught up with the 37-year-old veteran after the fourth game to get his latest impressions.

“We can't completely ignore it, we're already aware of how it's perceived. But we want to stay in this tournament, we don't forget where we come from and how hard it is to achieve such success. But we're also aware that we're doing the best advertising for Austrian ice hockey in many years.”
... Team spirit
“That has built up over the last four or five years. But in the last few games against the top nations, things have happened that you don't experience every day and of course that helps us get into this incredible flow. We have confidence and everyone is playing at or even above their limit.”
... The World Championship experience in Prague
“The games so far have been incredible, as has the whole atmosphere with our Austrian fans here in the Prague Arena. This World Cup is certainly one of the greatest experiences I've had at this level.”
