Course of the game
Vasily Zelenov opened the scoring in the first period after just 53 seconds (1st) after a pass from Philipp Krening. This was followed by an even game with a high tempo. As time progressed, the Red Bulls found their game better and better and were able to put Cortina under more pressure with a strong offense. However, the Italians remained dangerous at all times with their quick transition play combined with good passing. The home side took advantage of this shortly before the end of the first period (19th) to score the equalizer through Diego Cuglietta while short-handed.
The second period started with another overtime opportunity for the Juniors, but the home side once again defended strongly. The Italians gained momentum, but were also unable to capitalize on the ensuing overtime. Back at full strength, Cortina put the Juniors under pressure. However, the young Salzburgers were strong in defense and goalkeeper Thomas Pfarrmaier shone with good saves. Inspired by this, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors got back to their game and Julius Ramoser scored in the 32nd minute of the game in overtime to regain the lead. Chances for both teams concluded the middle third.
The start of the final period was characterized by ups and downs. In the 44th minute, Luca Zanatta took advantage of an overlap and deflected Diego Cuglietta's shot into the net for an unstoppable equalizer. Both teams fought for every inch. Cortina had several chances to gain possession, which the Juniors around Pfarrmaier once again defended brilliantly. In the last few minutes of the game, the young Salzburg team had an overpayment which created enormous tension. However, the Italian goalkeeper Hayden Hawkey could not be beaten.
As a result, the second game of the playoff semi-final series had to go into overtime. It got off to an extremely physical start with top chances for the Juniors. Offensive actions followed at high speed on both sides, but the decisive goal failed to materialize. In the 71st minute of the game, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors briefly had a double advantage. The Red Bulls laid siege to Hawkey's goal and Devin Steffler scored in the ensuing 5-on-4 after a pass from Kalle Myllymaa to secure a 3:2 away win.
