Course of the game
The Juniors tested the Italian goalkeeper Hayden Hawkey from the very first minute and set the pace in the first five minutes of the game. Dangerous chances brought the lead within reach, but Cortina always remained dangerous with their quick transition play. The Juniors converted their first overtime opportunity strongly; Paul Vinzens deflected Devin Steffler's shot unstoppably for a 1:0 lead (10th). In the final minutes of the game, Daniels Murnieks narrowly failed to score again (16'); Vadim Schreiner was also unable to beat the Italian goalkeeper on a solo run (18').
Cortina got off to a much better start in the second period. The Italians managed to take control of the game; the Juniors remained strong defensively. The defense around goalkeeper Simon Wolf also survived an overload, but shortly afterward Gregory Di Tomaso was beaten for the first time (26.). This breathed new life into the Italians' attack and Tommaso Traversa increased the lead to 2:1 (28'). The Red Bulls remained unimpressed, stepped up the pace again and got back on the offensive. Wimmer, Cernik and Gesson (25th, 26th) created strong chances for the home side, but were thwarted by goalkeeper Hawkey. In the 39th minute, Cortina countered again with their quick transition play and increased the lead to 3:1 through Gabriele Parini.
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors started the final period with a goal by captain Lukas Hörl (42'). From then on, the game was evenly matched and went up and down at high speed. The Red Bulls survived a short-handed situation and gained an advantage. Although they were able to make much better use of this than the Italians, they were unable to equalize. Cortina kept a compact defense and prevented a goal even when they were outnumbered again. In the final minutes of the game, the Red Bulls hardly let themselves be pushed out of Cortina's third. With strong duels and precise passes, they rotated in the attacking third and created one chance after another. In the final seconds, however, even the attempt with the sixth man failed and the Red Bull Hockey Juniors were narrowly beaten 3:2 by S.G. Cortina Hafro.
