Course of the game
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors got off to a strong start from the first minute of the game and put Italian goalkeeper Simone Peiti to the test early on. However, he kept a clean sheet. Unterland also created their first chances when they were outnumbered, but Juniors goalkeeper Simon Wolf shone with strong saves. Back at full strength, the young Salzburgers immediately took control of the game again, but they failed to score the opening goal for the time being - despite a chance to increase their numbers. The Juniors rotated in attack and put the South Tyroleans under pressure. Vasily Zelenov finally scored in the 19th minute to make it 1:0 at the end of the third period.
With an eye on the semi-final, the team led by captain Lukas Hörl again started the second period at a high tempo. The Cavaliers - now much more active - kept up this pace, waited for the Juniors to make mistakes and became dangerous with quick counter-attacks. However, Unterland was unable to score the equalizer despite being outnumbered. As the game progressed, Salzburg increasingly took control of the game and, although they again failed to capitalize on an overtime situation, Daniels Murnieks increased the lead to 2:0 just a few seconds later (32'). Spurred on by his team's offensive performance, Julius Ramoser scored in the 37th minute to make it 3:0. In the final seconds of the game, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors were confronted with a 5-on-3 short-handed situation. However, a strong defensive performance meant that Unterland had to end the period goalless again.
The Cavaliers changed their goalkeeper in the final period and Simone Peiti left his goal for Tizian Giovanelli. The Juniors, who still had to serve their penalties from the second period, started again with a strong defense. Back on top of their game, the play went up and down - both teams didn't give each other an inch on the ice. The young Salzburgers managed to build up enormous pressure on the Italians and establish themselves in the offensive third thanks to another overtime opportunity. In the 48th minute, Philipp Krening also managed to beat the newly substituted goalkeeper Giovanelli and increase the score to 4:0. Another short-handed situation put the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy's oldest team to the test again. However, Simon Wolf remained ice-cold and made strong saves to secure the Red Bull Hockey Juniors a place in the semi-finals for the second time since their participation in the Alps Hockey League.
