Red Bulls again with clear 5:1 home win against Linz Salzburg wins quarter-final series 4:1 // win2day ICE Hockey LeagueEC Red Bull Salzburg won the fifth playoff quarter-final game of the win2day ICE Hockey League against Steinbach Black Wings Linz 5:1 to advance to the semi-finals. The Salzburgers also clearly prevailed against the Upper Austrians in the third home game of the series and decided the best-of-seven series 4:1 in their favor. The Red Bulls again started the encounter with an early goal from Troy Bourke and were unstoppable from then on, even though Linz kept the game open for a long time. Mario Huber scored twice, as did Nicolai Meyer and Benjamin Nissner. The semi-final opponent has not yet been determined.

The first really good chance belonged to the visitors. Julian Pusnik failed to beat Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen from close range (4th). Two minutes later, the Red Bulls capitalized on their first power play and took the early lead (5'). Troy Bourke netted with a farmer's trick after Linz's goalkeeper had saved Peter Hochkofler's shot. This was followed by further opportunities for the home side in two 2-on-1 attacks (6). In between, the visitors produced some dangerous actions, with Brian Lebler shooting unhindered from the half-high slot (11). But the Red Bulls scored again, Nicolai Meyer simply took a shot at the goal line and surprised Rasmus Tirronen, who took the disk into the goal (12.). The Red Bulls were now bursting with enthusiasm and showed many goal-scoring combinations. Linz kept at it and had two or three strong shots from close range, with Atte Tolvanen reacting brilliantly. The Red Bulls took the 2:0 lead into the break after a final short-handed game.
The home side fended off another dangerous Linz powerplay at the start of the second period. And increased the lead to 3:0 a little later, Benjamin Nissner scoring from the right face-off circle (27'). Once again, the Red Bulls kept the ball moving and rarely let the visitors out of the defensive zone. Mario Huber finally scored in the powerplay too, tapping in a beautiful combination from the right to give his team a 4:0 lead (37'), after which Rasmus Tirronen cleared the net for Thomas Höneckl. Salzburg had a 4-goal lead after 40 minutes.
But Linz didn't stop there and reduced the deficit to 1:4 after the break, with Shawn St-Amant scoring in the powerplay (45'). However, Mario Huber also scored from the left face-off circle almost on the counter-attack and restored the 4-goal lead with his second goal of the day (46'). The game continued to go back and forth, with both teams continuing to play forward, even though the preliminary decision had been made. In the end, the Red Bulls held on for a clear 5:1 home win, which also meant they won the quarter-final series 4:1 and are now through to the semi-finals.

"They say the fourth win is the most difficult. We had too much respect at the beginning and started too slowly, gave away too much. They had a lot of chances at the start and the game could have gone either way. But then we caught ourselves and gave good answers. And in the end, we deserved to win."
