Course of the game
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors got off to a hungry start from the first minute of the game after losing 3:1 at home to the Rittner Buam in their last encounter. The South Tyroleans briefly posed a real threat when they were outnumbered, but the Juniors defended the situation with aplomb around goalkeeper Simon Wolf. This was followed by an even and goalless game, with chances on both sides.
The second period started with a top chance for Juniors striker Daniel Assavolyuk, but he was unable to find the finish. A few minutes later, the young Salzburg team had their first overtime opportunity, but once again failed to score. The Rittner Baum finally scored the first goal of the game through Eric Hjorth (35') after a period of pressure. However, the Juniors countered in the 39th minute of the game while outnumbered: Paul Vinzens deflected Devin Steffler's shot unstoppably to equalize immediately.
The final period started with an early goal for Ritten. Max Coatta gave the home side the lead again in the 42nd minute. The Juniors tried everything to level the score; the game became increasingly tough. Towards the end of the game, the young Salzburgers became less disciplined. However, the South Tyroleans were unable to capitalize on the ensuing superior numbers. In the final minute of the game, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors almost managed to equalize again with their sixth man, but were ultimately beaten 2:1 by Ritten.
Head Coach Teemu Levijoki
"It was down to our own mistakes today. We played well but let the game slip out of our hands at the start of the second period. We were unfocused here and Ritten is an opponent that takes advantage of that. They have a lot of experience and immediately used our mistakes against us."
