The Rittner Buam took the lead in the first period, but the Juniors equalized again in the second period. The Italians took a two-goal lead in the final period, which the Juniors were unable to catch up on.
Course of the game
The newly crowned Austrian champions started the Masterround game of the Alps Hockey League at high speed. Both teams had their first chances early on in the game, but the score remained goalless for the time being. The visitors from South Tyrol got into the game better as the first period approached and scored the first goal of the evening in the 12th minute with a goal from Jakob Prast. Shortly afterward, the home side had an overtime opportunity, but were unable to capitalize on it.
The Juniors started the second period much more actively and created their first strong chances early on. However, Rittner Buam goalkeeper Colin Furlong could not be beaten for the time being. It took until the 26th minute when Paul Vinzens scored after a pass from Lukas Schreier to make it 1:1. This spurred the Juniors on. The game immediately picked up pace and was characterized by ups and downs until the break.
The final period started in the South Tyroleans' favor. After just 29 seconds (41'), Kevin Fink took advantage of an overtime situation and scored to give the Italians the lead. The Rittner Buam increased the lead to 3:1 through Max Coatta in the 45th minute of the game. The Juniors tried to level the score again, but were unable to make any further impact in offense.
