Course of the game
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors started the first game of the Master Round against EC Bregenzerwald highly motivated. From the first minute of the game, the Juniors were able to establish themselves in the home side's third, but were unable to score an early goal. The game then moved up and down at high speed and became more physical. The Vorarlberg team briefly had a good chance due to an overpayment, but Juniors goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner - on his debut in the Alps Hockey League - made a strong save. The first period ended goalless.
The game was evenly poised at the start of the middle third. Both teams created dangerous chances, but the first goal of the game was only scored in overtime. Richard Schlögl took advantage of the power play in the 27th minute for EC Bregenzerwald to make it 1:0. The Juniors then became undisciplined and had to survive an almost two-minute 5-on-3 deficit. However, Ankirchner, together with the Juniors defense, defused this brilliantly. The pace of the game picked up and was characterized by counter-attack opportunities. EC Bregenzerwald took advantage of one of these counter-attacks through Roberts Lipsbergs to take a 2:0 lead (32'). The Juniors then woke up: Paul Vinzens scored just 38 seconds later (32') to tie the game, Kalle Myllymaa equalized again in the 34th minute and Vasily Zelenov gave them a 3:2 lead in the 37th minute.
The final period got off to a heated start. Both teams pressed for the next goal. Despite good offensive actions, however, this failed to materialize for the time being. EC Bregenzerwald was able to create another overtime situation, but was unable to capitalize on it. Julius Ramoser finally struck in the 53rd minute to give the Juniors a 4:2 lead. Bregenzerwald tried everything to get the final goal, but the young Salzburgers remained in control and did not let the game out of their hands. In the last three minutes of the game, the home side tried to turn the game around with a sixth field player. The Juniors fought for every inch and won their first game in the Master Round of the Alps Hockey League 4:2.
