The young Salzburgers scored the opening goal in the first period, but Fassa equalized 23 seconds later. The Italians were able to carry the momentum into the second period and score two goals, but the Juniors countered with three goals in superior numbers. Head coach Teemu Levijoki's team took complete control of the game in the final period: with three more goals, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors secured a 7:3 away win and a place in the Alps Hockey League playoffs
Course of the game
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors started the last game of the basic round with good chances. They tried to overcome the Italian defense with dangerous actions and score the opening goal. The Juniors pressed and rotated in the third, but were unable to find the finish even when they were outnumbered. Fassa then became more active again, but also failed to capitalize on an overtime opportunity. The game went up and down with a high tempo and several chances for both teams. It took until the 18th minute of the game for Laurin Sandholzer to score the highly anticipated opening goal. However, Andre' Vigl countered for the home side just 23 seconds later (18th) and equalized again.
Fassa increased the score to 2:1 early in the second period (22') through Sebastian Selin. The home side were able to gain momentum and increase the score to 3:1 in the 24th minute through Luca Biondi in another overtime situation. The game became more physical. A five-minute penalty for Fassa enabled the Juniors to level the game again: Kalle Myllymaa scored to tie the game in the 28th minute, and 33 seconds later Lukas Hörl equalized. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors took control of the game and Kalle Myllymaa scored a brace during a five-on-three advantage to give the Juniors the lead again.
In the final period, Daniels Murnieks increased the score to 5:3 in the 45th minute. Fassa had no answer to the Juniors' strong running game and only occasionally created chances. However, goalkeeper Simon Wolf defused these with ice-cold skill. In the 51st minute, it was once again Daniels Murnieks who scored after a pass from Paul Vinzens to make it 6:3. One minute later (52'), Laurin Sandholzer also scored his brace by deflecting a shot from Julius Ramoser to make it 7:3. Fassa changed the goalkeeper and brought Marco Felicetti into the game. This gave the Italians a breath of fresh air, but the Juniors remained in control. With the 7:3 away win against Fassa, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors finished the basic round in 3rd place and qualified for the playoffs in the Alps Hockey League.
