In the first period, Jesenice took the lead in a 5-on-3 overtime situation. The Juniors equalized in the second period, but Jesenice countered with three goals. It was not until the 34th minute that the Juniors scored another goal. In the final period, the young Salzburg team conceded two more goals. The final game of the year thus ended 6:2.
Course of the game
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors started the last game of 2023 highly motivated. The game started at a high tempo and was evenly poised. Both teams created good chances, but the encounter remained goalless for the time being. The Juniors were also unable to capitalize on an overtime opportunity. It took until the 13th minute of the game for Zan Jezovsek to give the home side the lead in a 5-on-3 overtime situation. The Juniors immediately looked for a quick equalizer, but were thwarted by Slovenian goalkeeper Zan Us.
In the second period, the Juniors put pressure on Jesenice from the start with a superior number. With success: Paul Noll scored the equalizer in the 21st minute. However, Zan Jezovsek promptly countered for the home side and scored again in the 23rd minute to take the lead. The Juniors were unable to find an answer to Jesenice's play. Gasper Glavic made it 3:1 in the 26th minute and Tjas Lesnicar made it 4:1 in the 29th minute. The young Salzburgers then became more active again and the game became more physical. In the 34th minute, Lukas Hörl scored to make it 2:4, but Jesenice remained in control and strong defensively.
In the final period, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors tried everything to make up the deficit, but had to concede further goals: Martin Bohinc scored in the 44th minute to make it 5:2, Zan Jezovsek in overtime to make it 6:2 (47th). The young Salzburg team tried everything to get back to their game, but could not find a recipe against Jesenice's play.
