Ritten took the lead in the first period, but the Juniors equalized again. However, the Salzburg team conceded another goal eight seconds before the end. In the second period, the South Tyroleans scored two more goals in the 22nd and 37th minutes. Shortly before the end of the second period, Kalle Myllymaa reduced the deficit for the Juniors to 2:4. The final period remained goalless. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors were ultimately beaten 2:4 by the Alps Hockey League leaders.
Course of the game
The match against the league leaders got off to a physical start from the outset. Both teams tried to force their opponents into making mistakes, but there were no dangerous chances for the time being. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors were also unable to capitalize on an overpayment. After the first 10 minutes of play, both teams became more dangerous in offense and Adam Giacomuzzi scored the opening goal for the home side in the 11th minute. However, the Juniors remained unimpressed and Maximilian Mackner equalized again just a few minutes later (13). Eight seconds before the end of the first period (20th), Max Coatta put Ritten back in front with a goal in overtime.
Max Coatta scored again for the South Tyroleans in the second period (22'). The Juniors - now facing a two-goal deficit - stepped up the pace. The young Salzburgers brilliantly defused a subsequent overtime spell for Ritten, but were also unable to capitalize on their own overtime. The Juniors did not manage to set enough accents in offense in the full-count game. The South Tyroleans increased the pressure on the visitors and took advantage of an overtime situation in the 37th minute: Terrance Amorosa increased the lead for the Rittner Buam to 4:1. But the Red Bull Hockey Juniors continued to fight and Kalle Myllymaa scored 30 seconds before the end of the second period (40th) to make it 2:4.
The final period got off to an even start. As time progressed, however, the Juniors increasingly managed to take control of the game and occasionally establish themselves in the Rittner Buam's offensive zone. Salzburg tried to catch up with a very offensive attacking game, but the South Tyroleans remained strong defensively. The visitors were also unable to capitalize on an overtime situation. The game then became more even again. In the final minute of the game, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors tried a sixth outfield player, but the third period remained goalless.
