Thank you TratteNo. 51 hangs under the roof of the Eisarena Salzburg forever // PoatraitMatthias Trattnig, long-time player and captain of the Red Bulls, was honored with his retirement in a festive ceremony on December 10, 2023 before the home game against Innsbruck.
He was the figurehead of the Red Bulls, celebrated 14 years of success with the Salzburg ice hockey club from 2005 to 2019 and played a key role in shaping the game of the now eight-time champions. In April 2019, the now 44-year-old father of three ended his unique career and has now been given the highest honors for it: with the so-called retirement, in which the number 51 is pulled under the hall roof and is no longer assigned in the Salzburg professional team.
In the almost sold-out ice arena, the 'Bulldozer', as he was often referred to in the media, was given a ceremonial farewell on the ice and addressed his former teammates and fans one last time:
"It wasn't just ice hockey in Salzburg, it became my second home. Many friendships have developed, many thanks to everyone in Salzburg, it was a wonderful time. Just as I always gave 100% on and off the ice, I got it back from the whole of Salzburg. Many thanks to all the Salzburg fans, to Red Bull and especially to the Red Bull ice hockey family, who made it all possible."
The banner with the 51 was raised by his former teammates Daniel Welser and Manuel Latusa, whose shirt numbers 20 and 15 are already hanging under the roof and will now have more prominent company with the 51.

Manuel Latusa "He was a great player, a good guy in the dressing room and a real leader. He had his heart in the right place and always led the way. As one of the longest-serving players in Salzburg, he collected many titles with his consistently strong performances with the Red Bulls and thus shaped an entire era. It is highly deserved that his jersey now goes under the roof."
Daniel Welser "Tratte was a driving force who usually took matters into his own hands when things weren't going well and always woke the team up with his commitment. He knew what was at stake in important phases and found ways to deliver the perfect performance. Playing at this level until your 40th birthday is not a matter of course, it's something very special."
