"We hope Kilian will be able to play quickly"// win2day ICE Hockey LeagueDue to the recent development of events surrounding former Red Bulls defenseman Kilian Zündel and his current commitment to the Vienna Capitals, the Red Bulls feel compelled to make a factual presentation. The 22-year-old Austrian international, who trained with the Red Bulls for many years, was signed as a new defender in Vienna on Monday, but has not yet played due to pending transfer arrangements.

"We would like to firmly deny that we are the ones who prevent the use of Kilian Zündel in Vienna. We only follow the usual procedure when transferring an Austrian U24 player within Austrian ICE Hockey League clubs, laid down in a Gentlemen's Agreement. This agreement stipulates that in case of a transfer within Austria, the training club receives a compensation for training costs, which has to be paid even if the player has played abroad in the meantime. This is the case with Kilian Zündel, who is under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta. The defender played in the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy or in the Salzburg professional team from 2016 to 2022 and also matured into an Austrian national player during this time.
We have made an offer to the Vienna Capitals that includes only a portion of the amount stipulated in the agreement and would also terminate a monthly pro-rata payment immediately should Kilian Zündel be recalled early to his Swiss base club HC Ambrì-Piotta.
Still this summer, at a meeting of the Austrian clubs, the gentlemen's agreement was again upheld by a clear majority. We were against it and clearly spoke out for the abolition, the Vienna Capitals were in favor. Now we only abide by the rules set by the clubs themselves and do not understand why politics is being made on the back of a player who is very dear to us as a club. We very much hope that we come to a solution with the Vienna Capitals quickly and Kilian Zündel can play as soon as possible."
