Recap
The Red Bulls started the game against VSV with a real offensive firework. Chay Genoway banged the puck against the bar on the power play (2nd period), after which the Salzburgers dominated the game in the attacking zone and made a real fuss in front of Jean-Philippe Lamoureux's goal. He didn't let anything through for a long time and was also quickest with two or three rebounds. In the 19th minute, however, Troy Bourke converted a cross into the goal area for a well-deserved lead at the break. Salzburg's backstop Atte Tolvanen did not have to intervene much yet, but prevented worse with a brilliant save on a 3-on-1 counterattack (14th). The Red Bulls dominated the first period, the guests were well served with only one goal conceded.
With a gigantic save Atte Tolvanen was again on the spot at the beginning of the second period against a free-standing Villach striker (22.). But shortly afterwards the disc went into the Salzburg goal, but took a strange trajectory over the goalkeeper (23rd). Immediately, the Red Bulls took control of the game again and at times literally besieged the goal of JP Lamoureux, who was also the winner in the 36th minute after a short solo by Troy Bourke. Before that (33rd) Atte Tolvanen held Maximilian Rebernig's penalty, Paul Huber hammered the disc on the crossbar on the other side (35th). The Red Bulls continued to dominate the game, but the guests also had their chances. Still in the 40th minute Villach's Maximilian Rebernig came alone in front of Salzburg's goal after another breakaway.
The game went back and forth in the final period. In the 45th minute, the Red Bulls regained the lead, Florian Baltram scored under the crossbar on the power play. Just three minutes later, Villach's Kevin Hancock scored from an acute angle, also on the power play, to equalize (47th). The Red Bulls remained on the advance; Troy Bourke alone in front of goal (47th), then an offside goal by Benjamin Nissner (48th). The game became more dogged, the duels tougher. Then the Red Bulls struck again, Ryan Murphy scored with a hammer from distance on a 5-on-3 power play for a 3-2 lead. Shortly after, Chay Genoway ensured the decision when he put Florian Baltram's dream pass into the slot with great feeling, even though Villach's Alexander Rauchenwald scored in the final minute after a long solo worth seeing to tie the game. In the end, the Red Bulls deservedly won 4:3 and thus also hold second place in the table.
