Recap
The home side started the game with a lot of pressure. The Hungarians immediately set the tempo and hardly allowed the Red Bulls to score in the first period. Atte Tolvanen in the Salzburg box and his front men were busy with defensive work even with two early shorthanded games, but did it well, even if the Hungarians forced several dangerous situations near the goal. With the same team strength, the Red Bulls hinted at their offensive strength at times, but could rarely challenge Székesfehérvár's goalkeeper Olivier Roy.
At the start of the second period, Atte Tolvanen drove the Hungarian offense to despair with more strong saves during a one-and-a-half minute 5-on-3 power play. After that the Red Bulls opened up the game, only now it was a game with fast ups and downs and chances on both sides. But the Red Bulls became more pressing and went ahead with two goals. Philipp Wimmer scored from distance (32nd) and fixed his second goal in only the 16th ICE game, Paul Huber nicely took the view of the goalie, and Benjamin Nissner did not hesitate long in the half-high slot and scored uncovered into the right cross corner (37th). The final phase also belonged to the Salzburgers, who took a 2-goal lead into the second intermission with a lot of efficiency.
Immediately after the restart in the final period, Peter Schneider provided the preliminary decision. He took the disc from a defender and scored on his own rebound for a 3-0 lead (41st) and fixed a brace six minutes later (47th) with a goal from the right face-off circle. The Hungarians continued to provide the Salzburgers with a fast-paced game and shortly after also scored their only goal on the power play through Pascal Laberge. But the Salzburgers didn't let anything go and celebrated a clear 4:1 away win due to the better second half and efficient use of chances, which Atte Tolvanen made possible with his strong performance.
Statement Oliver David
"We had a difficult start, but were able to turn the game around with more focus on the details. With better footwork, won duels, strong shorthanded play. And then we took our chances and scored really good goals. Today our good condition also paid off, that was the difference after we got through the first period a bit happy with 0-0."
