Course of the match
The second play-off quarter-final match started on an equal footing. The game was evenly poised with ups and downs when Davide Girardi was able to capitalize on the first dangerous chance in the 5th minute of the game and give Unterland the early lead. The Juniors then immediately tried to level the score again, but were slowed down by being outnumbered. Unterland struck again (9') and increased the lead to 2:0 again through Davide Girardi. The young Salzburgers then failed to return to their usual fast play, allowing the home side to take control of the game.
In the second period, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors came out of the dressing room much more active. However, Unterland remained strong defensively and did not concede a goal. The Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy's oldest team managed to exert enormous pressure on the South Tyroleans thanks to an overtime situation. Although they did not manage to score in overtime, this spurred on the Juniors, who were then able to take control of the game. The young Salzburgers only just failed to score in another overtime game.
In the final period, the Juniors continued their hunt for the final goal at high speed. However, Unterland was once again unable to be beaten in defense. The game became more physical. The Cavaliers became more dangerous again when they were outnumbered, but Simon Wolf defused the situation with strong saves. In the ensuing play at even strength, the young Salzburgers failed to find the finishing touch. As in the first playoff quarter-final game, the Juniors tried to turn the game around again by using their sixth man. In the 58th minute of the game, however, Unterland scored an empty-net goal through Aleksi Käyrä, which led to a 3-0 defeat.
