Red Bulls vs. Hydro Fehérvár AV19
Current Situation
After four consecutive wins, the Red Bulls’ momentum was halted in Bruneck on Friday. The offensively potent Pustertal side secured a 3–1 victory, making it difficult for Salzburg to create scoring chances. As a result, the Red Bulls have slipped to seventh place in the standings; however, they remain keen to stay within striking distance of the top group and are aiming for a full three points against Székesfehérvár.
In recent years, the Hungarian side has often been a favorable opponent for Salzburg—including their first encounter this season in Székesfehérvár, which the Red Bulls won decisively, 6–1. Yet, much like the Red Bulls, the Hungarians have recently found their stride. With three wins in their last four games—against Ljubljana, Milano, and, notably, league leaders Bolzano just yesterday—they have climbed back into contention, moving up to ninth place in the standings.
Avoiding Penalties
Avoiding penalties is, in principle, an essential component of a successful game. This is particularly true for the Red Bulls at the moment, as their 70% penalty-killing efficiency is the worst in the league. Through 16 games, Salzburg has conceded 17 goals while shorthanded (out of 50 total goals allowed). Yesterday in Bruneck, the South Tyrolean side laid the foundation for their victory over the Red Bulls by scoring two power-play goals early on.
For comparison, Székesfehérvár ranks 11th in penalty killing with a success rate of just under 76%, having conceded 14 power-play goals out of 54 total goals allowed. Salzburg’s advantage lies in their offense; with 48 goals in 16 games, they currently boast the sixth-most potent attack in the league, whereas the Hungarians have scored 36 goals in 17 games (ranking 12th).
Personnel Situation
Thomas Raffl, Peter Schneider, and Olivier Galipeau remain sidelined as they continue their recovery. Goaltender Atte Tolvanen is once again available to the team.
Statement from Nash Nienhuis
"It wasn’t a bad game from us yesterday against Pustertal. But our performance is still a bit up and down, and we definitely need to improve, especially when it comes to our special teams. We’re preparing for a tough game against Székesfehérvár. The Hungarians will arrive in Salzburg full of confidence, so we need to be wide awake right from the start."
