HC Falkensteiner Pustertal vs. Red Bulls
In the 16th round, the Red Bulls will face the Pustertal side for the first time this season, bracing themselves for another tough battle against a team sitting right next to them in the standings. Following yesterday’s home victory against the Vienna Capitals—their fourth win in a row—Salzburg will be looking to extend that streak in Bruneck.

Initial Situation
Yesterday’s clash between Salzburg and Vienna was a hard-fought battle. In a contest between two evenly matched opponents, the Red Bulls ultimately prevailed with a narrow 2-1 victory, reaping the rewards for 60 minutes of patient, disciplined play at both ends of the ice. As a result, Salzburg has climbed to sixth place in the standings—placing them right behind the fifth-placed Pustertal, who were idle yesterday and have played two fewer games than the Red Bulls.
The Red Bulls are particularly eager for their first encounter of the season against Pustertal, having been swept in four straight games by the South Tyrolean side in last season’s quarterfinals. Now, they have their first chance for revenge—though the trip to Bruneck will likely prove to be a mental challenge as well. Last season’s runners-up remain one of the league’s top teams and are currently riding a four-game winning streak. One of these streaks is bound to come to an end in Bruneck.
Pustertal’s Defensive Bulwark
The team, led by head coach Jason Jaspers—now in his third season in Bruneck—is defined primarily by its defense, which is currently the best in the league, having conceded only 31 goals in 13 games. Goaltender Colin Furlong has been a standout performer. The Canadian-born player, who holds dual Canadian-Italian citizenship, previously played for Pustertal in the Alps Hockey League (AHL) from 2018 to 2021, followed by stints with Gherdëina and Ritten. Back in Bruneck this season, he is competing in the ICE Hockey League for the first time, boasting a save percentage of 93.2%. The Red Bulls have conceded 47 goals in 15 games so far (ranking 9th), but they have become significantly more solid recently—allowing only five goals in their last four matches. This positive trend is underscored by the performance of David Kickert, who frustrated the Viennese side yesterday with a save percentage of over 97%.
Personnel Update
Salzburg’s latest signing, Fredrik Claesson, will make his league debut for the Red Bulls in Bruneck. Still sidelined are Thomas Raffl, Peter Schneider, and Olivier Galipeau, who are recovering from injuries, as well as goaltender Atte Tolvanen, who is currently in Finland for personal reasons.
Highlights HC Falkensteiner Pustertal vs. Red Bulls
Statement from Luca Auer
"The last quarter-final was frustrating, which just makes everyone twice as motivated now. We want to keep things simple: get players driving toward the net, put plenty of shots on goal, and create chaos in front of the crease. Sometimes the puck takes a lucky bounce—we just have to make sure we capitalize on those chances."
