Game Summary
The first Salzburg derby of the 2026–27 Alps Hockey League season started off evenly matched, with both teams creating early scoring chances. As the period progressed, the Juniors increasingly took the initiative and earned two power-play opportunities, but Zell am See defended tightly and did not allow a goal. The game then developed into a fast-paced, physical contest, with Juniors goaltender Mika Haim making key saves on the visitors’ shots. The first period ended scoreless.
In the second period, the Eisbären came out of the locker room stronger and created their first period of pressure, but the Red Bulls found their way back into the game. Both teams fought for every centimeter; quick changes of direction and several good scoring chances kept both goalies on their toes. In the closing minutes, Zell am See ramped up the pressure once again and looked to score from every angle. The Juniors blocked shots consistently, Haim kept a clean sheet, and the score remained 0–0 after 40 minutes.
The final period began once again with both teams evenly matched and playing at a fast pace. The Juniors looked to get past Alexander Schmidt, while at the other end, Haim kept the Salzburg team in the game with several saves. During another power play, the Red Bulls increased the pressure but were unable to convert their scoring chances. In the 58th minute, with a penalty called against the Juniors, Zell am See capitalized on the opportunity: Aljaz Predan scored off assists from Moritz Matzka and Blaz Tomazevic to make it 0–1. In the final 20 seconds, the Red Bulls played with a sixth skater, but they were unable to tie the game.

Statement by Goaltender Mika Haim
“I think scoring goals is a bit of a weakness for us right now. We need to get the puck on goal even more consistently and try to earn ourselves a goal. Defensively, it was another strong team effort. The guys blocked a lot of shots and made my job easier. We applied a lot of pressure in the first period; after that, the game was very even. Zell am See is a strong team, and we held our own well and gave it our all. In the end, unfortunately, we fell just short.”
