Once again, Salzburg played a strong opening period, taking a 1–0 lead through Wyatt Kalynuk; however, they quickly squandered that advantage in the second period, hampered by numerous penalties and conceding four goals. Although Peter Schneider briefly raised hopes by making it 2–3, they ultimately could not break through Villach’s solid defense, sealing the home defeat.

The Red Bulls got off to an ideal start with an early power-play goal; Wyatt Kalynuk scored from the right face-off circle, beating Villach goaltender Joe Cannata (2nd minute). The game then became a fast-paced, end-to-end affair, with Nick Poisson creating Salzburg's next big chance during a 2-on-1 break (8th minute). Salzburg noticeably upped the tempo but squandered possession all too often. However, the Red Bulls kept Villach pinned in their own zone for long stretches, putting their defense under pressure. The visitors enjoyed their best spell late in the period during a power play that included a shot off the post (15th minute); Salzburg netminder Atte Tolvanen made key saves, including stopping a dangerous mid-range shot from Julian Metzler (18th minute). After 20 minutes, the Red Bulls led 1–0, having controlled the majority of play.
In the second period, the Red Bulls initially enjoyed a strong spell featuring several rebounds in front of the Villach net. Shortly thereafter, Atte Tolvanen saved a penalty shot from Kevin Hancock (21st minute). During the visitors' subsequent power play, there was no stopping the same player when he fired a shot right into the top corner (25th minute). This gave Villach a boost, and they suddenly looked extremely dangerous. They struck again, with Joël Teasdale scoring from a breakaway position in front of the net (29th minute). Playing with a two-man advantage, the visitors extended their lead to 3–1 through John Hughes (32nd minute). Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Peter Schneider fired a mid-range shot into the top corner (35th minute). The Red Bulls immediately pressed forward and created good chances, but following a defensive error, John Hughes capitalized again, scoring from close range to make it 4–2 heading into the intermission (38th minute). Villach had turned the game around by scoring four goals.
Playing shorthanded in the third period, Nick Poisson had the first scoring opportunity after receiving a pass from Benjamin Nissner right in front of the net (43rd minute). Atte Tolvanen was then sharp to deny Maximilian Rebernig’s shot from the slot (44th). Salzburg really turned up the pressure, with Benjamin Nissner hammering the puck against the post from a tight angle (46th). However, the Red Bulls once again found themselves trailing while shorthanded, even though Mario Huber clipped the crossbar on a breakaway (49th). Nash Nienhuis also hit the post during the ensuing power play (51st). Salzburg kept working; Peter Hochkofler had a chance (53rd), followed by Peter Schneider (55th). In the closing stages, they threw everything forward, opting to play with six skaters during a power play three minutes from the end. There were plenty of tense moments in front of the Villach goal, but the puck simply wouldn't go in. Consequently, the Red Bulls lost 2–4 to Villach and are still waiting for their first win.
