Match Summary
The Red Bulls—missing only the recovering Florian Baltram—started the game by conceding an early goal. While shorthanded, Simeon Schwinger skated through the Salzburg defense and found a gap behind goaltender Atte Tolvanen with a backhand shot (2nd minute). Both teams came out flying, engaging in gritty battles for the puck and trading dangerous forays into the attacking zone. Salzburg had two or three good opportunities, with Nash Nienhuis grazing the post from distance (10th minute). A defensive blunder by Salzburg allowed Thomas Hundertpfund a brief breakaway, which the KAC forward converted with a shot into the top corner (15th minute). The game remained heated and end-to-end, though the Red Bulls struggled to create truly dangerous scoring chances. After an intense first period, the visitors led 2–0, having capitalized better on their opportunities.
The Red Bulls immediately applied pressure after the break, but the visitors pulled decisively ahead with a quick one-two punch. Maximilian Preiml scored from the blue line, picking the top corner (23rd minute), and shortly thereafter, Jan Drozg extended the lead to 4–0 from the face-off circle (24th minute). Salzburg goaltender Atte Tolvanen was subsequently replaced by David Kickert. The Red Bulls worked hard and pushed the pace, but KAC remained aggressive and dangerous, leading to an intense back-and-forth battle. The Red Bulls' chances improved; Wyatt Kalynuk hit the post during a power play (26th minute), while Klagenfurt goaltender Florian Vorauer stood firm against other quality shots amidst heavy traffic in front of the net. The Red Bulls headed into the second intermission trailing 0–4, despite an even shot count.
Salzburg fought on. Mathias Böhm’s solo effort (44th minute) was blocked by Florian Vorauer, but Dennis Robertson’s shot from right in front of the net found the mark (45th). Shortly thereafter, Michael Raffl also scored from the slot (46th), though the goal was disallowed. Momentum had shifted, however; suddenly, the heat was on in front of the Klagenfurt goal—but only briefly. The visitors didn't sit back and scored again. Daniel Obersteiner made it 1–5 on a rebound (50th), and in the same minute, Mattias Göransson scored another with a mid-range shot. Finally, Klagenfurt’s David Waschnig sealed the final score—the team's seventh goal—shortly before the end (58th). After a brief spark of hope in the third period, the Red Bulls suffered a heavy 1–7 defeat against KAC in their domestic league opener.

Statement from Ali Wukovits
"We didn't play to our standard; that’s not how you should perform. It started with the battles for the puck and small details, right through to the special teams. We gave it our all, but nothing worked from start to finish. Now, everyone needs to take a good look in the mirror and recognize what they can do better."
