Red Bulls vs. EC-KAC
win2day ICE Hockey League | Season Opener
September 18 vs. EC-KAC | 7:15 PM
Anticipation is high as the domestic championship finally gets underway. After long weeks and months of preparation—and four games in the Champions Hockey League—the Red Bulls open the 2026/27 win2day ICE Hockey League regular season with a clash against their perennial rivals, KAC. Both the Salzburg and Carinthia-based teams are aiming for a tone-setting start, having both been eliminated in the quarterfinals of the playoffs last season.
Forward Mario Huber
"Playing against KAC is always great. I think the Eisarena will have a fantastic turnout, and we’re really fired up for the match. I expect a high-quality opener and think it will be a good test for both teams right off the bat."
Klagenfurt with five new faces
While the Red Bulls’ roster underwent a major overhaul—with eleven departures making way for nine new signings—the Klagenfurt squad was refreshed with only five new players. Alongside defenseman Matthias Görannson (31), who arrived from Rögle BK, Travis St. Denis is certainly the most intriguing addition. The 34-year-old forward played for the Red Bulls last season (51 games, 21 goals, 24 assists) before signing with KAC this summer. In a twist of fate, the Canadian must face his former club in Salzburg for his very first league game with KAC.
Alan Letang’s ICE Hockey League debut
Alan Letang, the Red Bulls' new head coach, is also eagerly anticipating this first ICE League showdown. The 51-year-old Canadian—who once played in this league with Zagreb and earned his coaching stripes at the Croatian club—returns to the league after ten years: "It’s going to be exciting; the teams are all closely matched, and we know what to expect. We start right off against Klagenfurt, one of the league's top teams. I’m familiar with the intense rivalry between the two clubs; it will be a good early test to see where we stand." (Interview)
