Alan Letang, Head Coach EC Red Bull Salzburg
"We are thrilled to welcome Wyatt Kalynuk to our blue line. As a highly intelligent, headsy defenseman, his elite skating ability allows him to effortlessly escape and evade pressure on the ice. Wyatt's professional work ethic and fierce competitiveness make him a seamless fit for the Red Bull identity. Wyatt's exceptional character will perfectly complement our strong veteran leadership group."
Wyatt Kalynuk
„I’m really excited to join EC Red Bull Salzburg. The club has a winning culture, great facilities, and Red Bull is always a top team in the league and is expected to contend to win a championship every season. The combination of a strong history, a beautiful city, and the opportunity to compete on a top team and contend for a championship was all enticing to me. Personally, I want to earn the opportunity to be relied upon each game in all situations. I want to contribute offensively and be a reliable defender. Ultimately, my goal is to be a big part of a winning team in Salzburg.“
The defenseman is considered a mobile, puck-moving defenseman with offensive skills. In the 2024/25 season, Kalynuk scored 10 goals and 26 assists in 66 games for the Pelicans in the Finnish Liiga, including the relegation playoffs. He also played in the Champions Hockey League, where he has already faced the Red Bulls with the Lahti Pelicans, making 8 appearances with 1 goal and 5 assists. Last season, the Canadian played a total of 38 KHL games for Ak Bars Kazan, Salavat Yulaev Ufa, and the Shanghai Dragons.
Kalynuk's path to professional hockey began in the USHL and included three years at the University of Wisconsin. In his final NCAA season, he took on the captaincy and was selected to the All-Big Ten First Team. The defenseman had previously garnered attention in the USHL by being named to the Third All-Star Team. He also gained international experience representing Team Canada at the 2022 Spengler Cup.
