Highlights HC Falkensteiner Pustertal vs. Red Bulls
Game Summary
The Red Bulls started the game more or less at a disadvantage. After an early penalty, the puck found its way into the net behind David Kickert before the first minute had even elapsed. Nick Saracino deflected the puck past the goalie during the power play. The Red Bulls – without the recovering Ali Wukovits, Peter Schneider, and Troy Bourke, but with Luca Auer and Adrian Gesson, who had only played in the Red Bull Hockey Juniors' AHL home game against KHL Sisak the previous day – established themselves in the offensive zone for the first time in the 5th minute and promptly equalized with a deflected long-range shot from Mario Huber. From then on, the game became end-to-end with good scoring chances for both sides. As the game progressed, the Puster Valley goalie, Edward Pasquale, became increasingly called upon, and Salzburg's shot rate increased significantly. But on a breakaway – after David Kickert had thwarted a golden opportunity from the wide-open Rok Ticar in the 19th minute – the home team regained the lead before the intermission. Greg Di Tomaso scored from the half-high slot to make it 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Salzburg then applied constant pressure in the second period. The Red Bulls held the puck in the offensive zone for minutes on end, with only Edward Pasquale proving unbeatable. Brandon Coe, Benjamin Nissner, Devante Stephens – the puck should have been in long ago. It wasn't until well past the halfway point of the period that David Kickert was called upon again, making several dangerous saves in front of his net. The Salzburg attacks continued. Travis St. Denis had a chance after a solo effort (36th minute), and Thomas Raffl had another opportunity from close range in the slot (39th minute). The Red Bulls dominated almost the entire second period, but failed to score.
The home team started the final period with another early power play, but this time Salzburg's defense held firm. Pustertal kept the game close and increased their offensive pressure. The momentum shifted back and forth, with both teams taking turns establishing themselves in the offensive zone. The game became increasingly dominated by hard battles, which rarely resulted in clear scoring chances, especially as the spaces in front of the net were also tight. Pustertal finally sealed the victory with a power-play goal, Greg Di Tomaso scoring from the blue line (56th minute). In the frantic final minutes, the Red Bulls fell behind with further penalties and, despite additional opportunities, ultimately lost 1-4 after an empty-net goal.
Statement Manny Viveiros
Statement by Manny Viveiros
"We're a bit frustrated. We had our chances and didn't convert enough of them. I can't be dissatisfied with the guys' performance. But Pustertal fought hard in the great atmosphere of their home arena, and unfortunately, we just didn't have enough of a game today."
