Red Bulls vs. EC-KAC
In a fast-paced and exciting game, Florian Baltram gave them an early 1-0 lead, which the visitors equalized in the same period. Klagenfurt took the lead with a counter-attack goal in the second period. The Red Bulls then pressed relentlessly for the equalizer, but even in a highly intense final period with twice as many shots, they were unable to find the net. It was their first loss of the season against KAC, which drops the Red Bulls to eighth place in the standings.
Highlights Red Bulls vs. EC-KAC
Game Summary
After a brief defensive adjustment period, the Red Bulls took the lead with virtually their first real offensive move. Following excellent build-up play by Troy Bourke, Florian Baltram lobbed the puck under the crossbar from a sharp angle to make it 1-0 (3rd minute). Shortly afterward, the Red Bulls had several chances in quick succession in front of Klagenfurt's goalie Sebastian Dahm, who made the saves. On their first power play, KAC equalized, with Mario Kempe giving Salzburg's netminder David Kickert no chance with a screened shot into the top corner (9th minute). At an incredibly high tempo, both teams battled fiercely, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Lucas Thaler, for example, fired a powerful shot from the left face-off circle just over the net (14th minute). The game developed into a thrilling duel by the first intermission, with both teams giving their all, both emotionally and otherwise. The 1-1 score after 20 minutes reflected the run of play.
The opening phase of the second period belonged to the Red Bulls, who dominated possession in the offensive zone for several minutes; at one point, the puck slipped through the goalie's pads and down the goal line (25th minute). It wasn't until a power play that the visitors got back into the game. Michael Raffl then found himself in front of Klagenfurt's goalie (30th minute), and Lucas Thaler fired a one-timer on the power play that went too central (33rd minute). Salzburg pressed forward, but the visitors suddenly took the lead with a goal from Matt Fraser on a 2-on-1 counterattack (36th minute). Shortly after, David Kickert stopped Klagenfurt's Mathias From at close range (36th minute). Now the game was an open, end-to-end affair. Just before the second intermission, Simeon Schwinger skated through the Salzburg defense but once again couldn't get past David Kickert. But the visitors led 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Right in the first minute of the final period, the Red Bulls had several good scoring opportunities, but Klagenfurt's defense was packed tight. Salzburg launched wave after wave of attacks, while Klagenfurt defended well and countered effectively. Thomas Raffl created the next great chance in the slot in front of Sebastian Dahm (45th minute). Salzburg continued to press, firing relentlessly from all directions. The visitors' defense held firm, even during an intense Salzburg power play (starting in the 49th minute). The game then became almost entirely confined to Klagenfurt's defensive zone, but every Salzburg shot was blocked by an opposing foot or stick. Even in the final stages with six skaters, when the Red Bulls risked everything, they couldn't find the back of the net, and so Salzburg ultimately lost 1-2 to Klagenfurt after a generally good game.
Statements Thomas Raffl & Manny Viveiros
Statement by Thomas Raffl
"Overall, we performed very well today. Klagenfurt capitalized on our mistake in the second period with a stretch, and unfortunately, we couldn't get anything going on offense. But we're on the right track, and today was a good test for us."
