FTC Telekom Budapest vs. Red Bulls
This is the Red Bulls' first appearance against the new league participant in Budapest; the Red Bulls won the first encounter at the end of October in Salzburg with a score of 7-2. Head Coach Manny Viveiros' team now aims to win the second match against the Hungarians and build on their strong performance from their last victory in Innsbruck.
Statement Philipp Wimmer
Background
In the final rounds of the regular season, the Red Bulls have rediscovered their form, winning four of their last five games. Last Sunday, they celebrated a 4-0 victory in Innsbruck, which not only earned them three points but also showcased a significantly improved team performance. This win propelled the Red Bulls back to sixth place in the standings, a position they now aim to defend in Budapest.
However, FTC Telekom Budapest is also vying for these points. After an initial period of adjustment, the Hungarian team currently sits in eighth place, just five points behind the Red Bulls and a guaranteed playoff spot. Last Friday, they suffered a heavy 1-6 defeat in the Hungarian derby against Székesfehérvár, only to then snatch a point on Sunday against Olimpija Ljubljana, the league's third-placed and rising star, after a narrow 1-2 overtime loss. Led by Canadian league veteran Braeden Shaw, who is the undisputed top scorer in Budapest with 12 goals and 14 assists.
This is the Red Bulls' first ever game in Budapest's Tüskecsarnok Arena (meaning "Spiny Hall"). The name comes from the 84 spikes on the building's domed roof. Opened in 1998, the multi-purpose arena has a capacity of 2,200.
Peter Schneider is out
The Red Bulls' personnel situation is easing, even though Peter Schneider will be out sick tomorrow. Philipp Wimmer, who made his comeback in Innsbruck on Sunday after almost three months, is getting back into form (see statement). That leaves Peter Hochkofler, Ali Wukovits, and Lukas Schreier, who is hoping to return after the December break, unavailable.

Philipp Wimmer's statement on his comeback
"I'm happy to be back with the team. Being able to play again is everything I've worked for these last three months. You have to get back into the swing of things; it's quite different whether you're working alone in the academy or playing here with the guys, where everything is faster and more intense. But you get used to it quickly, and it's simply fun."
Philipp Wimmer's statement on the game in Budapest
"The Hungarians will come out of the locker room with a lot of pace and put a lot of pressure on us right from the start. They're a good team and can play well against top teams. We definitely won't underestimate them and will concentrate on our own game. That means everyone has to stick to the system, with lots of passes and good shots, and then it will work."
