Red Bulls expect FTC-Telekom Budapest | Ladies Night
The Red Bulls are eagerly awaiting their first duel with the league newcomers and want to show their strength right from the start in their home arena, supported by their local fans.
Current situation
After a truly mammoth schedule, with eight games in 17 days, the Red Bulls took two days off at the start of the week to recharge their batteries and are now ready to take on FTC-Telekom Budapest. The team is only known to the Salzburgers from video analysis so far, so they are focusing primarily on their own game in order to quickly get back on track. In their last eight games, they have only won three times – but two defeats were only decided in overtime – and have struggled to convert their chances.
They have been closely watching the new league entrant as they prepare for the game, as the Hungarians have settled in quickly on the new stage and have recently scored heavily with three wins (against Graz, Feldkirch, and Linz) from four games. They are currently in 8th place in the interim standings with 16 points, one game behind the Red Bulls, who are in 5th place with 21 points.
Scandinavian-style ice hockey
Timo Saarikoski, a Finnish head coach, is on the bench in Budapest. The 56-year-old came to the Danube in the summer from EHC Freiburg in the DEL2 and already has a Slovakian championship title with HC Kosice (2022/23) under his belt as an assistant coach. The team combines young and older players and is right in the middle of the league in terms of average age. The imports – 17 Hungarians are reinforced by five Finns and three Swedes and Canadians each – also come from all age groups. The current top point scorers are Jussi Tammala (FIN/11) as well as Brady Shaw (CAN/11), Tyler Coulter (CAN/9), and István Sofron (HUN/7), all of whom already have ICE League experience. | Info FTC-Telekom Budapest
Devante Stephens out for an extended period
The Red Bulls continue to be plagued by injury woes. Defender Devante Stephens, who was sidelined with a lower body injury in the last game in Ljubljana, will be out for several weeks. In addition, Ali Wukovits, Peter Hochkofler, and Philipp Wimmer are out for a while. There is one bright spot, however: Defender Lukas Hörl returns tomorrow against Budapest after a three-week break, and Michael Raffl is also fit again.
Statement from Peter Schneider
"It's always exciting to play against a new team. We've already analyzed some of them and are warned. Generally speaking, there's no team in the league that you can take lightly. We'll approach the game fully focused and continue to work on making the most of our opportunities."
