Red Bulls strengthen their team with a local forwardMathias Böhm transfers from Vienna to the defending champions// Team updateEC Red Bull Salzburg has signed young Austrian player Mathias Böhm as a forward. The 22-year-old, who was born in Klosterneuburg, comes from the Vienna Capitals and is expected to add depth to the Red Bulls' team.
Mathias Böhm grew up in the Vienna Capitals' junior program and gradually made his way into the Vienna professional team. Along the way, he was also a member of the Austrian U18 and U20 national teams. The 6'3" forward made his debut in the 2021/22 season at the age of 18 with the Vienna Capitals professional team, but continued to play in the AHL and Austrian U20 league for two years. In the last two seasons, Böhm played full-time in the win2day ICE Hockey League (83 games | 7 goals | 10 assists) and also showed his potential in several appearances for the Austrian national team.
Statement Mathias Böhm
"When the opportunity arose, I didn't have to think twice. I'm really excited to get this chance in Salzburg. Of course, I know what I'm getting myself into. Salzburg is the strongest team in the league and there's a lot of competition within the team. But I want to fight for my place and I think it's good because it pushes us young players to push each other. As a big forward, I can use my body well, and my biggest strengths are my forechecking and my shot. I also love the physical game and want to make my mark with my long stick. I also think I'll fit into the team quickly, especially since I already know many players from the Austrian national team and some former Viennese players like Ali [Wukovits] and Benni [Nissner] well."
Statement Manny Viveiros, Head Coach EC Red Bull Salzburg
"Mathias is a very talented player who can help us achieve our goals. We look forward to working with him, developing him further, and fully exploiting his potential as a hockey player."
The Red Bulls are looking forward to welcoming a young forward who, with more than two seasons of experience in the win2day ICE Hockey League, will add depth to the squad. However, Böhm is also expected to continue developing in Salzburg and earn his professional appearances in daily training, competing with other young Salzburg players who are pushing forward from the Red Bull Hockey Juniors (AHL) team.
