First opponent in the CHL: Polish champions GKS Tychy Poland's top team back in the Champions Hockey League after four seasons// CHLGKS Tychy is the first Polish team ever to record points and a win in the Champions Hockey League.The club took part in the CHL in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons, playing against opponents the Salzburgers know well: in the 2019/20 season, they played against the Vienna Capitals and in the 2018/19 season against HC Bolzano, scoring one win and one loss each time.
Successful history
Since its foundation in 1971, GKS Tychy has won six Polish championship titles and eleven cup victories, making the club one of the most successful teams in Poland. In the last twenty years, the team has reached the final 15 times, winning gold six times and silver nine times. In seven of the last twenty seasons, they have also finished the group stage in first place in the Polish league.

If you take a look at the Polish team's squad (as of June 2025), you will notice a high proportion of Finnish players. More than a quarter of the players come from Finland and head coach Pekka Tirkkonen is also Finnish. The Polish team can therefore be expected to play strong Finnish ice hockey.
