Manny Viveiros, Head Coach of EC Red Bull Salzburg
“When I got the offer to become Head Coach at EC Red Bull Salzburg, I didn't hesitate. I've known the Red Bulls organization for many years - my son Layne also played here for a long time - from my time as a coach in Klagenfurt and have seen how professionally they work here. I'm very excited about my time with the Red Bulls and look forward to the challenge of continuing the successful path of recent years. There is of course pressure of expectation, but I love this situation and see it as a privilege to be able to work with a team that has a chance of winning the title and can make history. At the same time, I want to contribute my experience from the Canadian Junior League and the American Hockey League, develop young players and introduce them to the professional level.”
Helmut Schlögl, Managing Director Pro
“With Manny, we are getting a very experienced, internationally recognized coach with strong ties to Austrian ice hockey. He is also a good person with great values, which are essential and important for us. We know from people who have worked with him in the past that he treats players and staff with respect and creates an environment of mutual trust and appreciation. Through his hard and dedicated work, he not only promotes the team as a whole, but also attaches particular importance to recognizing and developing the individual potential of each player.”
Manny Viveiros was born in St. Albert, Canada, where he also began his playing career in the WHL, which culminated in a total of 29 NHL games for the Minnesota North Stars and winning the Calder Cup with the Springfield Indians in the AHL. In 1991, he moved to Villach, where the then defenseman celebrated two championship titles. Via other clubs in Austria, Italy and Germany, he moved on to the KAC, with whom Viveiros won two more championship titles.
He then began his coaching career in Klagenfurt, where he was head coach and sports director for many years and led the club to two championship titles between 2007 and 2014. In 2014, he also led the Austrian national team through the Olympic Games in Sochi as Head Coach. After a subsequent one-and-a-half-year stint as a coach in the DEL with ERC Ingolstadt, he returned to Canada in 2016, where he worked for various WHL clubs until recently. His wealth of experience also includes one season as an assistant coach in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers (2018/19) and three seasons as head coach of the AHL club Henderson Silver Knights.
