Red Bulls fight for 3:2 overtime win against Olimpija LjubljanaPeter Schneider: “The chance for first place is still there”// win2day ICE Hockey LeagueEC Red Bull Salzburg won their win2day ICE Hockey League home game against Olimpija Ljubljana 3:2 in overtime, but could have won the game after 60 minutes if they had made better use of their chances.
The Red Bulls took the lead twice, the visitors equalized twice before Salzburg put the lid on the game in extra time. The Red Bulls thus remain in second place in the table and can still secure their 2025/26 CHL place on Friday in Székesfehérvár. If they win by three points and the KAC lose in regulation time, they could even win the basic round.

Highlights Red Bulls vs. Olimpija Ljubljana
Course of the game After a stormy start by the Red Bulls, the visitors got into the game after a few minutes, but were hardly able to slow down the home side's attacking spirit. Ljubljana goalkeeper Luka Kolin had a lot to do straight away, but prevented Salzburg from taking an early lead. Scott Kosmachuk, for example, was initially unable to get through alone in front of him (8'). Even a first short-handed game could not endanger the Salzburg defense with goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen. Mario Huber tried a surprising shot from the high slot (16). Peter Schneider then hammered the disc into the net from distance for a 1:0 lead in the powerplay (18). Shortly before the break, Atte Tolvanen had to defuse a chance from Kale Kerbashian, who appeared alone in front of him. Overall, however, the Red Bulls had a clear advantage in the first period.
After the break, Ziga Pance scored early on with a shot from half distance right into the corner of the net to equalize (23'). That gave the visitors a boost and the game now went back and forth. The Slovenians came close to scoring again during a four-minute power play, but were denied by Atte Tolvanen. The game remained open and competitive. The Red Bulls had a few chances right in front of the goal with rebounds, but the visitors were now really uncomfortable and played a strong powerplay before the second break. 1:1 after 40 minutes.
Benjamin Nissner regained the lead with a lightning goal straight from the opening face-off of the final period, giving the goalie no chance with a lob under the crossbar (41'). Salzburg were now back on track and exerted a lot of pressure in the offensive zone, although the Slovenians also continued to have their periods of pressure. And the visitors actually managed to equalize on a counter-attack, Robert Sabolic had a half-open goal on the follow-up shot (56'). That was enough for the Slovenians to take the game into extra time, in which the Red Bulls had the better hand (63'). Scott Kosmachuk netted from close range into the corner of the net to secure the second point.

Statement from Peter Schneider
“It was well deserved, but somehow it doesn't feel like a win. We've been struggling to find our game lately. The chance to finish first is still there and either way we just have to go into the last game at full throttle and make sure we find our form again before the playoffs.”
