Starting position
The starting position ahead of the game against Innsbruck is similar to that before yesterday's game against the Pioneers Vorarlberg. The Red Bulls are the favorite on paper and want to put theory into practice on the ice. However, the standings alone do not tell the whole story, as the Salzburg team found out for themselves yesterday in their 6-1 defeat against Feldkirch.
Against Innsbruck, who are currently bottom of the league, they will have to consolidate, regroup and act as a cohesive unit. This is also extremely important in the longer term in order to return to a consistent performance. In the last seven rounds, the Red Bulls have alternated between victories and defeats, leaving them in seventh place in the table at the moment (with two or three games less than the others).
The Sharks could sense their chance and will throw everything into the ring to get their first win against Salzburg in their third game of the season. Although the Tyroleans have had few victories to celebrate recently, they showed just yesterday how dangerous they are, as VSV, who are currently on a real high, only managed to win 5:4 in overtime in Innsbruck.
Special Teams
The special teams play a special role time and time again, both in overtime and shorthanded situations. If the Red Bulls avoid penalties, they are in a good position, as they currently have the worst record in the league with 72.9% of opponents' power plays defended. Innsbruck remains at 78.3% without conceding a goal.
On the other hand, the Red Bulls have the best powerplay in the league, almost every third overtime game is successful (30.4%). Innsbruck can only use the numerical advantage 13.8% of the time (12th place).
