Many ice hockey fans - especially the older ones - immediately pricked up their ears when they heard the name Nienhuis. And indeed, Nash, the son of the once legendary Kraig Nienhuis, has signed on in Salzburg and could follow a similar path to that taken by his father. At least from a sporting point of view, because parallel to his ice hockey career in Austria, Kraig Nienhuis started a career as a singer and guitarist in a rock band. He still makes a living from music today.
Interview Kraig Nienhuis
Former NHL forward Kraig Nienhuis came to Austria via Germany and Switzerland in 1990, where he played four years with the KAC and won the Austrian championship with the Carinthians. He then celebrated two Slovenian championship titles with Ljubljana and rounded off his career in Europe in Germany, England and Italy before returning to America. In 1996, the now 62-year-old - newly naturalized - even played in the World Cup with Austria in Vienna.

Nash Nienhuis
A few days ago, Nash was visited by his parents and, in addition to two home games with their offspring in Salzburg, the two also watched the Red Bulls' opening game in Klagenfurt. Kraig Nienhuis clearly enjoyed the trip down memory lane. He still raves about Austria and its culture and hopes that his son can now have similar wonderful experiences and celebrate successes. A wish that the Red Bulls seamlessly endorse.
