The starting position
One win and one defeat - that's how the Red Bulls started the regular season of the Champions Hockey League 2024/25 at home. After a narrow 4:3 defeat against Skellefteå AIK, in which the Red Bulls caused the Swedish champions to falter, they followed up with a commanding 6:2 home win against Danish champions SønderjyskE Vojens, which keeps the Red Bulls in 11th place after two rounds.
The first away game against Unia Oświęcim (Auschwitz) now follows on Friday. The Poles, who celebrated their ninth championship title last season after a 20-year 'break', put in a strong performance in Tampere at the start of the CHL season, picking up a point at Finnish top club Ilves after a 3:4 OT defeat. They then suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to the Berlin Polar Bears.
The Red Bulls are expecting a game at eye level against an as yet unknown opponent, who should, however, be well prepared by head coach Nik Zupančič, who previously fought several tough duels with the Red Bulls as a player at HDD Olimpija Ljubljana. The Poles will receive additional support in their first CHL appearance from their fanatical crowd in the Hala Lodowa MOSiR, which holds almost 3,000 spectators and was sold out for the first home game against Berlin.
