After an even first period in which both teams scored twice, the second period remained goalless despite intensive efforts. Liberec pulled away with two quick goals in the third period, and although the Juniors came close once more, it was not enough to equalize in the end.
Course of the game
The first period got off to a turbulent start when Bílí Tygři Liberec took the lead through Lubos Stahon in the 2nd minute of the game. However, the Juniors equalized in the 7th minute through Daniel Assavolyuk. After the Czechs took the lead again through Radim Handl (19th), the Red Bulls replied just 5 seconds later with another equalizer from Nick Maul (19th), meaning the period ended 2:2.
The game remained goalless in the second period, although it was characterized by intense physical play and several penalties. Both teams looked for a way to take the lead again, but prevented this with strong defensive work.
In the third period, Bílí Tygři Liberec scored two quick goals by Pavel Prusek (41.) and Vojtech Hois (43.) to secure a 4:2 lead. The Juniors fought back to 4:3 in the 56th minute with another goal from Nick Maul. In the final minute of the game, they took their goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner off the ice in favor of an extra outfield player, but they failed to score another equalizer.
