Productive U23 camp at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy Oliver David impressed by the young talents // Red Bull Icehockey AcademyIt's never too early to start laying the foundations for next season. Last week, Salzburg's and Munich's U23 cracks met up for a multi-day training camp and know-how exchange, which has become almost a tradition. For several years now, the Red Bulls have been bringing the U23 players from Salzburg and Munich together for a training camp in the off-season to train together and get an idea of the next prospective professionals and their development. A good 40 talented players showed off their skills over five days: Mostly players from the academy, but also young professionals such as defenseman Philipp Sinn from Salzburg or goalkeepers Christoph Kolarz and Daniel Alavena from Munich as well as some tryouts.
For Salzburg's Head Coach Oliver David, it was his second participation in the camp: "I was impressed by the skills of our players, who come from Teemu [Levijoki] and Illka [Pakarinen]'s team. I've watched quite a few games live during the season, but when you're on the ice with the players, you always get a different picture."

Training planning once again relied on the expertise of Don Jackson, who is inextricably linked to the Red Bulls' successful ice hockey world after one year as Head Coach in Salzburg and nine years in Munich (until 2023). The exchange with the German coaches was particularly important to David: "Among other things, I had a long conversation with Munich's new Assistant Coach Max Kaltenhauser; about Red Bull's defensive philosophy, where it comes from and how it works. But also about how to shape the system offensively. This kind of interaction is great and a big advantage of our U23 camp."

Impressions from the U23 Camp
The insights gained from the U23 camp will not only have a positive impact on the players' development, but will also have an impact on the cooperation with the two professional teams. David, who has now experienced the training camp for the second time after his first year in Salzburg, has a clear picture: "I have the feeling that after this summer camp I have the best understanding I've ever had of our up-and-coming talents."
