Juniors win against Merano with 6:2Red Bull Hockey Juniors start the new year with a strong performance// JuniorsThe Red Bull Hockey Juniors triumph 6-2 against HC Meran/o Pircher in their first home game of 2024 in the Alps Hockey League.
Meran scored an early goal to take the lead, but the Juniors countered with five goals in the first period. The second period started as the first ended. The Juniors increased their lead to 6:1 as early as the second minute of play. Meran then changed goalkeepers and remained strong defensively. The South Tyroleans finally scored their second goal in the final period. However, the Juniors played a controlled game until the end and were able to start the new year with a 6:2 home win.
Course of the match The first few minutes of the home game against Merano were characterized by high tempo and good chances. Despite strong moves by the Juniors, Joseph Garreffa took the lead in the 4th minute of the game with a solo run on goalkeeper Simon Wolf. The young Salzburgers immediately countered with further dangerous shots, but were initially unable to beat Italian goalkeeper Andrei Makarov. Kalle Myllymaa only managed to equalize for the home side in the 9th minute of the game when they were outnumbered. The Juniors increased the pressure on the visitors and Julius Ramoser took the lead in the 15th minute of the game. This unleashed the home side: Just 39 seconds later (16th) Maximilian Wurzer scored to make it 3:1 and 26 seconds later (16th) David Cernik made it 4:1. Finally, (20th) Kalle Myllymaa scored a brace to make it 5:1.
The Juniors started the second period the same way they ended the first. Daniels Murnieks increased the score to 6:1 in the second minute, after which Andrei Makarov had to make way for Matteo Calvi in the South Tyrolean goal. The home side controlled the game and fired shots at the newly substituted goalkeeper from all angles, but Merano remained strong defensively. However, the South Tyroleans became more undisciplined and were confronted with several short-handed situations as a result. By blocking the Juniors' shots, however, the second period remained goalless - apart from the early goal.
The pace of the game slowed somewhat in the final period. The Juniors played in a controlled manner and the game shifted to Merano's defensive zone. The South Tyroleans only created more traffic in front of Salzburg's goal when they had a chance to create more chances. However, goalkeeper Simon Wolf was not beaten until the 54th minute. It was then that Calder Anderson suddenly found himself alone in front of the home side's goal and scored the second goal for Meran. However, the young team from Salzburg did not let the goal affect them and played out the remaining minutes of the game in a controlled manner. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors thus managed to start 2024 with a home win.

Forward Julius Ramoser
"We started the game well and showed in the first period that we've made a strong start to the year again. In the last two periods, we then played the game consistently. Now we're slowly entering the hot phase. The last few games haven't gone well, but we were able to show today that we're back on the right track. We want to continue that now."
